What is SWD ?
Patent Description
Traditional and present methods of drying fruits and vegetables by applying hot air and Sulfur, causes change in color, fragrance and taste of the end product.
This new method, which is based on drying by sun light, inside of a plastic tunnel causes mild evaporation and hence minimum change in the dried products. On the side, the evaporated fragrance of the vegetable/fruit can be collected by placing a cold plate at the rear end of the tunnel which has a fan in-front of it, to blow air inside the drying tunnel. The fragrance obtained from this procedure can be added to the dried product just before packing, when permissible humidity is sprayed on the dried product.
The new method causes no pollution, since warm current of air is applied into the tunnel by using electrical fans.
In the second phase the existing humidity together with the herb fragrance are absorbed by a cold surface and thus plant’s distillation is produced.
In the third phase, the distillation produced during the second phase is transferred to a cooling tower and the essence is extracted.
To calculate the cubic feet of a space you wish to vent, multiply the length X width X height (in feet).
Then, to calculate the number of minutes it would take to completely change the air in that space you would divide the cubic feet by 680 and then multiply X 60.

Making the Tunnel
Bend your own high tunnel hoops. Designed to create 12′ diameter hoops out of locally available 1 3/8″ chain link fence top rail, this new addition to the Quick Hoops TM line allows for construction of a 12′ wide, 7′ high tunnel of any length you desire. Included with the bender are instructions and illustrations on how we built our own walk-in caterpillar style tunnels. Also included with the bender, which mounts to any solid horizontal surface is a lever bar for added leverage when ‘finishing’ the bend.

Ventilation fan
Ventilation is about air exchange. Large volumes of air need to be moved during hot conditions. A “Sun Wind tunnel” needs to be able to achieve at least 30 air changes per hour, but ideally 60 air changes per hour – one air exchange every minute – is needed to make sure the “Sun Wind tunnel” environment can be managed in hot sunny conditions.
Solar powered fans run when they are most needed, when the sun is shining! During hot season.
Dehumidifier or Cooling plate
A dehumidifier is a household or commercial appliance used to take moisture out of the air around its location. The process is condensation, as the dehumidifier collects water particles and the moist air makes contact with cold evaporator coils. The water then condenses into droplets and collects in a reservoir, or bucket, within the dehumidifier. This bucket needs to be emptied regularly for the dehumidifier to work effectively. Certain dehumidifiers are self-draining while other models must be emptied manually.
